I've been thinking a lot about potential lately. Not the glossy, five-year-plan kind, but that quieter feeling that there's something here. An idea that won't leave you alone. A business that has outgrown its current shape. A founder who knows they're onto something but can't quite see what it could become yet. A creative who knows they're capable of more, but needs a little clarity, perspective or someone in the room who can see the bigger picture. That's the space Studio Dawn was born for.
Studio Dawn is a creative growth studio for ambitious people, businesses and brands figuring out what's next. We work across brand strategy, positioning, creative direction, visual identity, campaigns, products, platforms, communities and the action that gets an idea into the real world. Sometimes I'm acting as a creative director or strategist; sometimes as a fractional creative partner, mentor or coach. The format changes depending on what's needed, but the underlying job is much the same: find the opportunity, define the potential, and help make it visible. I believe people, brands and businesses are often capable of more than they can currently see. Sometimes they just need the right perspective — and then some bloody good branding, design and narrative to take it out into the world.
That thinking has been at the heart of my work for more than fourteen years, across advertising, branding, design, strategy and community building. When I look back at the projects I'm proudest of, the common thread isn't a particular type of deliverable; it's finding a gap, spotting an opportunity and creating something to fill it. With Stretchy Social Yoga Club, that meant seeing a gap for more social, community-led yoga and building the brand, experience and community around it. With Picky Images, it meant identifying a need for more authentic New Zealand imagery and helping build the brand, platform and photographer community from scratch. And with Caike Club, I'm exploring that same instinct in my own work: creating a new kind of IRL AI learning community because I couldn't see the thing I wanted to exist. Alongside that are years of more traditional brand and campaign work — including the crafted, award-winning work I've created across advertising and design — all of which has taught me that the best creative work starts long before the making. You can see more of that thinking and the work behind it here.
Dawn is the moment possibility becomes visible — the point where potential starts becoming real. It also happens to be my middle name, which felt like a pretty good metaphor to build a studio around. But honestly, I'm building Studio Dawn the same way I'd guide anyone else through their own dawn: in the open, a bit messily, figuring out the shape as I go rather than waiting until it's perfect. I'm learning to build things myself, not just direct them. I'm learning what it means to hold community, craft and business all at once, without flattening any of them. And more than anything, I'm learning that the moment potential becomes visible isn't a finish line. It's just the start of the next thing becoming possible. That's Dawn. Glad you're here for it.
