Growth Projects designed to create momentum — whether you're launching something new, evolving an existing brand or searching for a clearer direction.
Together we'll uncover opportunities, sharpen your positioning and build the creative and strategic foundations for meaningful growth. We work on what the brief is really asking — not just what's been written down. That might mean a visual identity, a campaign, a repositioning, a new venture strategy or a complete brand world. We scope each project together so you know exactly what you're getting and what you're paying for.
Founders and businesses at a moment of change — a launch, a rebrand, a new direction, or a big idea that needs both strategic clarity and someone to help build it.

We saw a gap in the market for casual, community-based yoga — and a real social need for connection time.
The concept for Stretchy 1.0 was born in 2024 — building off the ethos of a run club, but for yoga. Stretchy was positioned as a welcoming weekly highlight, with casual yoga and social meetups to stretch bodies, minds and social circles. We grew a social community from the yoga mat upwards, creating a vibrant, bold, friendly, fun-club-esque and un-yoga-esque visual and verbal identity to welcome all. In 2026 we evolved the strategic, brand and business concept from yoga club to social movement — using AI as an opportunity to democratise community movement and reshape an entire payment and scheduling platform. Stretchy 2.0 is currently in testing: a social payment system where the more people who come together to move, the better the value for all. It's a platform that encourages movement together, and can expand beyond yoga into all forms of group and community practice.

Glossy, international stock images dominated the New Zealand market — with few options for NZ businesses to connect with local photographers for genuine-feeling images available for commercial use.
Picky. The stock & mock image marketplace for the real, authentic New Zealand. We grew Picky from nothing, to concept, to full-scale platform and brand — positioning, identity, tone, photographer community and platform direction. We recruited 55 photographers with a deliberate focus on female and underrepresented talent, and directed two rounds of mock image campaigns, one of which sold out. We developed campaign work including Chrissy Cards and "Is it a Picky?" — a guerrilla OOH campaign placing Picky images in unbranded real-world contexts to prove the product's quality without saying a word.
A strategic creative partner who understands your business, guides the work, supports the team and helps connect the dots.
Some businesses don't need another agency. They need someone who represents them in the room. This is for businesses at a growth point — where the creative decisions matter more than ever and you need someone who can think across brand, culture, campaigns and team, before you're needing a full-time, permanent hire. We work alongside your existing people, not above them.
Businesses at a growth point who need consistent creative leadership — not a one-off agency brief. You might have an internal team that needs direction, or no creative lead at all. Either way, you need someone in the room who gets it.

Whittaker's Blondie & Biscuit campaign
The brief was to create a bold and attention-grabbing campaign for Whittaker's latest product development — at a time when Chocolate Lovers were experiencing "new product fatigue".
Strategically, as the limited edition launch was hitting shelves around Valentine's Day, the timing was too good to ignore — particularly as the NPD involved two "loved" flavours coming together. But only for a limited time… just like all good romances. The concept centred around "When Two Become The One" — the perfect pair made when the Blondie and Biscuit blocks come together. To bring the limited edition "fling" to life, a romantic DM-style campaign was created from REAL Blondie chocolate and homemade biscuits, showcasing the expert craft and supreme ingredients in every Whittaker's block. A teasing "flirting billboard" took over a key LUMO site in Auckland for Valentine's Day, with cheeky messages sent between Blondie and Biscuit before revealing the new block two days later on launch. The romance then continued nationwide with street posters, an extensive social and digital campaign, cinema bumpers, TV on Demand and sampling activity.

Whittaker's Delicious by Design campaign
Again at a time of new-product-development saturation, the launch of Whittaker's Honey Nougat & Almond needed to elevate the creative approach to design, communication and brand storytelling — standing out while hero-ing the craft and quality of ingredients.
We wanted to engage Whittaker's local "Chocolate Lovers" with a visual feast they could almost taste, before tasting the real deal. Lifting the chocolate veil on the Whittaker's factory, Chocolate Lovers were given a glimpse of the magical world of the latest block creation through TV and a social film — created entirely in-house at Breakout Room. The "Delicious by Design" innovation story came to life further through an immersive activation for industry, influencers, media and Whittaker's Chocolate Lovers. Working with digital innovation company Satellite, viewers were catapulted into the world of Whittaker's to experience the craft and care that goes into each block of Honey Nougat & Almond.

"Is it a Picky?" OOH / guerrilla campaign
Picky needed to prove its product in market — without a big budget.
We saw the upcoming Best Design Awards as the perfect opportunity to get the Picky brand in front of its toughest audience — Creative Directors, Design Directors, Producers and the wider NZ creative industry. So a $200 Best Award entry fee felt like a chance for a cheeky guerrilla campaign. "Is it a Picky?" was a series of thought-provoking headlines getting the target audience to question which other Best Award entries had in fact used a Picky image as part of THEIR campaign work — instantly elevating Picky's genuine position in the market as a premium but authentic stock and mock image supplier. A proof-of-quality campaign that made the product the message.
Even the best creatives need perspective. Someone to challenge the thinking, strengthen the work, spot opportunities and ask different questions.
This is creative direction designed for the people who usually provide it themselves — whether that's added insight into your creative business, or your clients'. We've been where you are. We know what it's like to be working in isolation or within a small team and needing added insight, brain power and creative thinking to sense-check, confidence-boost, or actually help guide your creative business — for your business or your client projects.
Freelancers, studio founders and independent creative directors who need a senior creative perspective — on their work, their business, or both.
Strong work, great bones — needed fresh perspective.
Two briefs for two new clients of Rule's, both needing some extra "love" to wow these new client relationships. We strategically questioned aspects of the initial client brief to sharpen thinking and unlock new avenues for the creative direction to go. Over two half-days, we created new brand territories, moodboards and messaging to align with the work Rule was presenting — sharpening and catapulting different directions to present to client.
A space to think more clearly, make better decisions and move forward with greater confidence.
Building a business. Stepping into leadership. Navigating change. Finding clarity. Trusting your instincts. This is a space for the bigger questions.
We work on unlocking your growth — the work, the positioning, the pitching, the mindset, the business model. Whatever it is. Where do you want to go? What's holding you back? What does the next version of your career or business actually look like? We work through it together — honestly. A clearer vision and direction created where needed.
Each engagement is shaped by you — your growth opportunities, your defining moments, where the leverage actually is. Some starting points:
Creatives, freelancers and founders at an inflection point — stepping into something new, navigating a transition, or needing a consistent senior perspective to think alongside.
A brand strategist in an agency, being drawn towards shifting into Creative Direction. They needed a thinking partner who understood both the creative and strategic side of the industry.
We helped guide, reflect and navigate towards stepping into a creative role within the same agency — reflecting on the why, the vision and the values that underpinned the shift. We built confidence, language and outcomes for internal team and employer conversations, offering perspective based on real experience of how a Creative Director's roles and responsibilities actually show up. A creative "sounding board" reviewing work and briefs in tandem with our sessions, building confidence and understanding in the process of being a creative vs strategist.
A New Zealand designer running a remote creative business from Japan. Working in isolation, she needed added perspective and execution of the positioning and messaging for where she wanted to shift to — to gain a more grown-up set of playful clients.
Shifting from experienced Web Designer & SEO expert to a Strategic, Brand & Web Design Partner for playful and ambitious founders. Through a series of remote workshops and messaging work, we developed the business positioning, the offer, and how to communicate value while keeping the playful fun to attract higher-value clients internationally.
A Creative Growth Studio works across the full picture of what makes a brand, business or creative person grow — not just the design, and not just the strategy. We combine both, because one without the other usually misses.
At Studio Dawn, that means brand strategy, creative direction, campaigns, community building, ventures and mentoring — shaped by the specific opportunity in front of you. We define the potential, then help build toward it.
Studio Dawn is a creative growth studio based in Auckland, New Zealand. We work with businesses, founders and creatives on brand strategy, creative direction, visual identity, campaigns and mentoring — locally and remotely across New Zealand, Australia and beyond.
Two kinds of people come to us. Businesses and founders ready for their next chapter — a new brand, a repositioning, a product launch, or a creative evolution. And creatives — freelancers, studio founders, independent creative directors — who need coaching, mentoring or a senior creative perspective on their work or business.
We're based in Auckland, New Zealand and work with clients across NZ, Australia and remotely worldwide. We love a call and a coffee catchup — but distance has never stopped good work.
Yes — and increasingly so. New Zealand's creative industry punches well above its weight internationally. Our perspective is culturally distinct, globally informed and genuinely independent — shaped by a unique position at the intersection of Pacific, Asian and Western influences.
For international clients there's a practical upside too: you get the thinking and output of an experienced senior creative team at a rate that reflects the NZ market, not London or New York. More for your international dollar — with the quality to match.
Studio Dawn is led by Kimberley Torrie — Creative Director, strategist and community builder with more than fourteen years of experience across branding, advertising, design, strategy and community building. Previously at FCB Auckland, Saatchi & Saatchi London, and across brands including Air New Zealand, Whittaker's, Sharesies, Vodafone and ANZ.
Her work is guided by a simple belief: people, brands and businesses are often capable of more than they can currently see. Sometimes they simply need the right perspective to reveal it — and then killer branding, design and narrative to take their vision to the world.
The Studio is our project-based work for businesses, founders and new ventures. It's where we build brand strategy, visual identities, campaigns and creative worlds — scoped to what the brief actually needs, not a standard package.
Brand identities, repositioning, new venture strategy, campaign strategy and creative, visual identity systems, product launches and brand builds. We scope each project individually — because no two briefs are really the same.
Brand strategy defines the foundation your business builds everything else on — your positioning, audience, messaging, values and competitive space. It answers: who are you, who are you for, what do you stand for, and why should anyone choose you? Without it, even beautiful creative work can miss the mark.
Creative direction brings your brand strategy to life visually and experientially — the look, feel, tone and creative execution across every touchpoint. A creative director guides the vision, makes the decisions and holds the work to a standard. At Studio Dawn we work across both — because the two only work when they're aligned.
Brand strategy is the thinking. Creative direction is the making. Strategy defines where you're going and why. Creative direction decides how it looks, sounds and feels when you get there. Most studios do one or the other. We do both — because a brand that looks great but says the wrong thing is just an expensive mistake.
A fractional creative director is a senior creative leader who works with your business part-time — typically 1–2 days per week — rather than as a full-time hire. They provide strategic creative guidance, lead the work, support internal teams and represent your brand in the room. You get the thinking and leadership of an experienced CD without the cost or commitment of a permanent hire.
Businesses at a growth point — where the creative decisions matter more than ever and you need someone who can think across brand, culture, campaigns and team. You might have an internal creative team that needs direction, or no creative lead at all. Either way, you need someone in the room who gets it — before you're ready for a full-time hire.
Monthly retainer, usually equivalent to 1–2 days per week. We embed in your business, get to know your team and your challenges, and show up as a consistent creative partner — not a one-off consultant who disappears after the brief.
It varies depending on scope and time commitment. We work on a monthly retainer and scope each engagement individually. We also offer flexible value exchange for the right fit. Get in touch and we'll figure out what makes sense.
Yes — a significant part of what we do is for creatives themselves. Freelancers, studio founders, independent creative directors, people stepping into leadership. We offer creative direction for your business or your client work, and mentoring and coaching for the bigger questions about where you're going.
A space to think more clearly, make better decisions and move forward with greater confidence. We work on whatever's most useful — positioning, pitching, the business model, mindset, the next move. Whether you're building a business, stepping into leadership, navigating change or just needing a senior perspective to sense-check the work.
Yes. Some of our most meaningful work is with individual creatives. We've been where you are — working in isolation or in a small team, needing insight and brain power to sense-check, confidence-boost or actually help move things forward. We offer hourly, half-day and project-based engagements.
It depends on the project. We scope each engagement individually so you know exactly what you're getting and what you're paying for — no vague quotes, no surprises. We offer flexible value exchange models including project fees, monthly retainers, revenue share, royalties and equity for early-stage businesses. The best starting point is a conversation.
You don't have to figure that out before you get in touch. That's what the first conversation is for. Tell us where you're at — the business, the challenge, the feeling that something needs to shift — and we'll figure out the right way to work together.
